Tips on running a competition on Facebook and /or WordPress

I am setting up a competition for a client of mine, we are running it through WordPress, promoting it on Twitter and Facebook, so I have been reading and reading loads of posts to find tools to help me.

I thought you may like to hear about some of them, and I would love to hear about any applications you have used to develop and promote your competitions through Social Media.

WordPress

An App that levels the playing field with big companies that can use apps like Wildfire, these can cost 10K up to get running, a little prohibitive for most smaller companies, welcome a great Plugin called Contest Domination http://contestdomination.com, I haven’t used it yet, but believe it can cost as little as $37 to get a competition up and running.

Facebook

Woobox apps, they claim to have 40 million monthly active users, more than any other page app company. http://woobox.com/, reviews say easy to use and affordable.

Twitter

I found a great twitter tool called ClicktoTweet.com. It allows you to create a link, then whenever someone clicks the link to “click here to tweet about it” in our welcome email, we’re controlling it with a pre-populated message. Go and have a look.  http://www.clicktotweet.com

It allows you to write a prewritten message so you can add a link for someone to “click to tweet” about it in a competition post.

Here’s an idea of how to use it:

Write a captivating Tweet:

Part 1: If you have three minutes enter our competition to win ….. reinforces the value for anyone else that might see their tweet

Part 2: Create a URL to the Competition landing page (usea url shortener that allows us to track clicks)

Part 3: Really great prize @username…  value enforcing statement , along with a @ username on Twitter so you can see who’s tweeting our tweet.

There are loads of applications and of course rules when it comes to running competitions on Social Media, so make sure you read them.
